crews are still here, mopping up from this two-alarm fire that presented some big challenges. the fire started in the rear of this building, and spread up the inside to the walls to the attic. that's where crews had the hardest time knocking it down. because the building has neighbors close on both sides, crews posted their, and in the back to keep it from spreading. the top flat pretty much was gutted. those residents are in europe right now on vacation. the woman who lives in the ground floor unit was with them, until returning home today to find this. a fire that had the whole neighborhood watching. >> it was a stubborn fire because the roof is not a typical roof. it appears to be a flat roof in the street, but it's actually a double peak roof building. so that made it difficult to get access to the attic, and put the attic out. >> i can't find my kitty, sophie. if anybody seeing the blue tabby wandering around without a collar please call the spca. >> is that your biggest concern right now? >> it is, the rest of my animals are safe, and the rest is just stuff. >> reporter:

just how you called it, bill, it just keeps heating up. >> now we're headed for a big warm up. we go outside and i'll show you what we have. we have some warm highs, warmer than yesterday by about five to 10, 15 degrees warmer in some places. here are the buoys offshore. this one up around point rays is blowing west-northwest gusting at 36. as we go into the next 24 to 36 hours we're going to start clocking out to the north like this. what will happen is that's the warm off direction. it's a northerly gradient that's very influential and warming up the bay area. especially as we head into saturday and sunday. the sun will be at the coast intermittently. as we head into saturday and sunday, the high pressure builds out of the southwest. comes up out of the valley. you know how hot that air can be. hottest day sunday, but saturday is going to be pretty darn warm and so is monday. the forecast then for 90. the high pressure of the story. my biggest concern with this. obviously fire danger but we've had rain. so it's not going to be as severe as it could be. i wouldn't be surprised

a big sinkhole has opened up on highway 87 in san jose. ktvu's tara moriarty is there with a look. >> reporter: yeah, this is about a 30-inch -- 30-foot wide sinkhole that you see behind me here and i noticed -- they noticed the problem on tuesday so crews came out here and poured some gravel, sort of a quick fix to this problem, and what they did then was last night they came out and they compressed this gravel over here. if we can pan over here to the right. there's a lot of gravel right here as you can see and what they did was compressed this and they saw that it actually sunk even lower, like a foot and you can tell that the road is completely exposed there so they knew they definitely had a problem. so they shut down the road at 9:00 last night. this is highway 87 southbound near west virginia street. and the -- just south of the alma exit, that is also shut down. that off-ramp has been closed. the on-ramp is still open from 280 as is one lane of 87. but in any case, some of the things that cause sinkholes, vibration of traffic and h
